The Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia, organized a community service program in Keliki Village, Gianyar. The event was attended by several key figures, including Dr. I Nyoman Ariana, SST.Par., M.Par., Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University, five lecturers from UiTM Malaysia, the Head of Keliki Village(I Ketut Wita, S.Ag) , the Chairman of Pokdarwis (Ketut Supartika), Homestay Owners, Communities and international students from Go Bali, Udayana University.
Coordinated by Dr. Putu Sucita Yanthy, SS.M.Par, the event carried the theme “Community Engagement in International Edu-Tourism: Innovating Homestay Management in Keliki Village, Gianyar.” It included workshops and focus group discussions (FGD) on strategies for managing homestays as a global tourism destination. The activities began with trekking around the village, followed by an eco-print workshop, homestay management sessions, a traditional Balinese cooking class and Balinese traditional painting activity.
Dr. I Nyoman Ariana, SST.Par., M.Par., emphasized the importance of this event in supporting Keliki Village to compete globally, especially with the rapid development of homestay services.
Prof. Dr. Azila Azmi from UiTM shared experiences in homestay management from Malaysia and Japan, highlighting the importance of official licensing, local cultural engagement, as well as cleanliness and meticulous service.
Keliki Village, which has over 100 homestays, offers unique experiences for tourists, such as staying in traditional Balinese houses and participating in daily activities with the hosts. The homestays also collaborate with travel agencies and online platforms to attract more visitors.
This program is expected to enhance Keliki Village’s competitiveness as one of the best international tourism destinations in Bali.
